Laura Linney's performance of weak but strong characters has earned her the title of one of the most popular American actors. Her father was an acclaimed playwright, but Linney was raised as an only child with a single mother, a nurse. In the summer, while with her dad, Linney developed a passion for theater. Linney eventually pursued acting initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. When she graduated at Brown University, she began making her Broadway debut shortly thereafter. In the space of two years from this, her first feature film came out and the next year she made her television debut. In the years since, she's appeared in numerous films, television productions as well as stage productions. Over the course of her career, she won several awards, among them the two Golden Globe Awards. In spite of numerous awards the theatre is still her first love and she is still appearing on screen and on stage.
